Piquillacta Andahuaylillas Tipon

This is a day trip to some of the impressive sites outside of Cusco City. Andahuaylillas is a small village famous for its church, Iglesia de San Pedro, which has been referred to as the "Sistine Chapel of America." Piquillacta is a well-preserved archaeological site from the Wari period, a pre-Inca culture. Tipon is an impressive example of Inca ingenuity and agricultural innovation.

Cusco - Andahuaylillas - Piquillacta - Cusco

Location of Cusco:

Cusco is located in central and south eastern Peru. It occupies much of the orographic knot of Vilcanota. Their diversity and abrupt changes in landscape and ecosystem are mainly associated with the Andes. If it did not exist, Cusco and Peru in general, would be tropical locations.

Topography of Cusco:

Their relief presents the Eastern Central Cordillera of the Andes and originating in the Nudo de Vilcanota. The Cordillera Oriental is subdivided into three branches: Vilcanota, Vilcabamba, Paucartambo. The Andean region presents aspects of high mountains, high plateaus and highlands, extensive pampas lined deep gorges why you run gunpoint rivers, forming valleys and canyons, the most important being processed by Paucartambo, Urubamba and Apurimac rivers. In the high forest, the descent from the highest to the lowest parts of the Cusco territory offers a wide variety of lush vegetation, where reigns the warm continental climate.

Tour Plaza de Armas of Cusco:

Plaza de Armas known by the people of the time as Aucaypata square, which in Quechua means "Warrior Square" was one of the most important venues for the Incas who performed grandstanding as the Inti Raymi festivities. Its beauty highlighted by the beautiful frame given by its stone archways on two floors, work developed with the arrival of the Spanish in Peru.

Tour Andahuaylillas:

Andahuaylillas town where stands the church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, built in the early seventeenth century. Its gilded altars decorated interior, paintings and murals of the Cusco School and silver jewelry. Beautiful is also enhanced by its square Pisonay trees. A few kilometers further we reached the town of Huaro, where they lived the witches of the Inca era.

Tour Piquillacta:

Piquillacta Called "City of Fleas" was one of the most important centers for the Wari culture. It is a set of buildings whose goal was to defend its territory and store agricultural products. A few steps further we will find the lagoon Lucre or Huacarpay, shelter several animal species. Enjoy the landscape and regional meals in restaurants that are located in the area.

Cusco - Andahuaylillas - Piquillacta - Cusco

Around 9:00am we leave for the Andahuaylillas (a 45-minute journey), a small village famous for its beautiful church. We will see beautiful murals of traditional Cusquenian art, amazing embroideries and carved altars. From there we will go to Piquillacta, where we will explore the ruins of the pre-Inca culture of Wari. Later the tour takes us to Tipon, which was believed to be an agricultural laboratory, which also has an impressive irrigation system. Tipon is also known for its "cuyerias" where cuy (guinea pig) are cooked in large ovens. If you're interested, we can stop to try this traditional Peruvian cuisine (not included in the price of the tour). We will return to Cusco at 4:00 PM.
